From my sketchbook, work in progress. 2013.
I want to use my autobiographical memories for making picture books. I believe that an artist’s work reflects their life, which allows the artist to communicate with society effectively.
For around three years, I had met strangers almost everyday, visited their homes, and shared their private stories. Through the sales person experience, I could look back at my life. It inspired me to study illustration and to make my picture book now. I want for my readers to share their empathy and communicate with me through my picture book, which I believe can happen by expressing my life honestly.
In this book, whenever this bear meets different characters, he learns that each customer has a very different life. Also, he realizes that each people has a different criteria of happiness. He becomes aware that he is not a fox, he was born as a bear. This story is about the process of one ordinary office worker finding identity. I hope that my work could inspire readers to realize their dreams and happiness.
